The Manzano High School boys and girls soccer teams experienced the power of solar energy first-hand as their new off-grid system was officially commissioned by Osceola Energy this past Tuesday, September 12. The 5 kW system was donated by Osceola Energy and functions with two solar panels mounted to the roof.[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]

Todd Alam, Girls Soccer Coach for Manzano High School, initiated the project with a letter expressing the need for light in the girls’ locker rooms. Before the solar energy system was installed, players had to leave the locker room doors open to see while they changed. Now, with solar energy, the teams’ locker rooms are lit and power has been added to the concessions stand, coach office, storage room, and score board.[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]

Not only can the system boost profits with more options at concessions, but it has improved training conditions and team morale. The project is part of a broader goal of Osceola Energy to brighten Albuquerque through work in the community.[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]

“The letter Todd wrote really hit home for me, as the bathroom for my High School field hockey team was in a remote location and had no power,” Galina Kofchock, CEO of Osceola Energy, says of the project. “It got me excited that after all these years I could help others with the same issue. I’m really excited that we were able to find a solar solution to provide lighting for the locker rooms. This demonstrates that not only is solar clean and green, but it can make a real impact in people’s lives.”[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]

Osceola Energy celebrated the finished project with a ribbon cutting ceremony ahead of a girls varsity game September 12th 2017.
